If you look for something very easy, quick and healthy then this roasted makhana fits your bill perfectly. Easy time-time snack roasted lotus seeds are crunchy and tasty snacks to munch on and trust me it's difficult to stop at few.


Since this roasted makhana (nikori)I am posting specially for fasting (vrat) I am following fasting rule so there's no turmeric powder, table salt and chaat masala, though some people eat chaat masala during fast, so it's up to you whether you want to add chaat masala if making this for fasting. For non-fasting days you can add turmeric powder too, or it turmeric powder is also allowed with your family vrat rules then go ahead add haldi for upwas too:).

Roasted Phool Makhana (Fox Nuts) Recipe

Healthy, vegan mildly spiced roasted fox nut or puffed lotus seeds.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups - Makhana/Fox Nut/Lotus Seeds
  • 2 tsp - Oil
  • 1/2 tsp - Red Chili Powder
  • 3/4 tsp - Cumin Powder
  • 1/8 tsp - Pepper Powder
  • To Taste - Sendha Namak/Rock Salt

Method:

  1. In a pan or kadai heat oil, add makhana/puffed lotus seeds and roast with regular stirring on low flame for 8-10 mins or until they becomes light brown, crispy and crunchy.

  3. Add all the spices and off flame (to avoid spices from burning), mix well to coat makhana with all spices.

Serve immediately or store in air-tight container once cooled.

Notes
  • If you take chaat masala while fasting then add 1 tsp of chaat masala.
  • If making this not during fasting then add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, it bring nice color to the makhana and you can use normal table salt.
