Pumpkin Halwa, Kaddu Halwa or Kumdra halwa is easy, delicious halwa made with minimal ingredients. We can make this halwa for festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, Diwali. This halwa can also be made for vrat (fasting) we just have to skip the sooji. Pumpkin halwa taste super delicious and make in many way across India, this is one of the easy recipe and halwa poori can make any one go weak on their knees :)



I wanted to post this halwa recipe for quite some time but since it's Ganesh Chaturthi celebration time so I made a effect to write this post, after long blogging break it's really difficult to be back. Nevertheless, I am trying my best and hope to continuing this after all blogging gives me immerse happiness.

This pumpkin halwa was made by my elder sister-in-law during our India trip with all the family together and we decided to make kaddu halwa and poori for brunch cause for large number of people doing this also takes lot of time :) so we started peeling and grating pumpking then my elder SIL started to make halwa, myself and my co-sister started working on poori and it was super yummy meal for sure.

Since I was busy working on poori so I couldn't click the step-wise pictures but the halwa was so good that I didn't want to miss the oppurnity of not clicking the pictures so with whatver was available to use as prop and no idea of where I will get good lighting I quickly taken couple of pictures to share this wonderful recipe with you all.

Pumpkin Halwa | Kaddu Ka Halwa Recipe

Rich, delicious halwa made with grated pumpkin, sugar, milk and dry fruits.

Ingredients:

  • 3 Cups - Peeled, Grated Pumpkin/Kaddu
  • 1/4 Cup - Rava/Sooji (optional)
  • 1/2 Cup - Grated Dessicated Coconut
  • 3/4 Cup - Sugar
  • 4 Cup - Milk or Coconut Milk
  • 1 tsp - Fresh Cardamom powder
  • 1/2 Cup - Ghee or Coconut Oil
  • 1/4 Cup - Chopped Nuts (Cashews, Raisins)

Method:

  1. Peel, wash and grate pumkin/kaddu/kumdra. Chop dry fruits and keep aside.
  2. In heavy bottom kadai/pan, heat ghee (or oil if using )and add grated pumpkin and saute in low to medium heat for 10 mins with regular stirring to avoid buring.
  3. Now add sooji/rava and roast for another 10 mins or until sooji gets light brown.
  4. Add milk, mix well and cook in slow flame with lid on for 10-12 mins or until all the milk is absorb fully. keep stirring regularly.
  5. Add sugar and chopped dry fruits and mix well, add coconut stir non-stop to combine everything well, cook for another 2-3 mins or until ghee starts to ooze and halwa starts to leave sides of pan.
  6. Add cardamom powder mix well and off flame.

Serve hot or warm and enjoy the halwa, you can also make it prasad with poori. Makes good breakfast or brunch with poori too.

Notes
  • For vegan version use coconut oil and coconut milk
  • You can add any dry nuts of your choice.
  • You can skip sooji too, we add since sooji helps to add texture.
  • You can adjust sugar to suit your taste.
