How To Perform Puja On Mahashivratri
- Wake up before the muhurat on this day and take a bath before puja.
- Now, sprinkle the gangajal bought from the Ganges at yourselves and all over your house.
- Now, perform the puja by performing shivling abhishek where you need to deliver holy ganga water and some milk to the shivling either if you have it at your house or in a nearby temple.
- After the abhishek honour Lord Shiva with belpatra, samitra, lotus, neelkamal, dhoop, rye flower, etc.
- Now, you must meditate by keeping Lord Shiva in your heart and mind.
- Lastly, do the chanting of ‘Om Namah Shivay’ and perform the aarti by chanting Lord Shiva Arti.
- End your puja by distributing the prasad to your family members and giving them arti also by telling them to chant ‘OM Namah Shivay’ in their while receiving prasad and aarti.
Sawan Shivratri 2025 Fasting
For the sawan month, each devotee keeps fast a nirjala fast or a partial fast where nirjala fast includes no food and no water in the whole day but eats anything only after the puja in the next morning and eating some fruits, nuts, milk or other vegetarian food.. The devotees who are keeping a partial fast includes abstaining from food with garlic, onion and eating only something sweet like kheer, fruits or any item made with potato including sendha namak.
