Chicken 65 or Fried Chicken is spicy, juicy and delicious appetizer and it's difficult to say no to this yummy snack, who doesn't like chicken 65 after all of course ignoring the vegetarian, vegan people here :) Chicken 65 is regular feature item while visiting restaurants and where does the 65 name comes from is a big mystery. I am posting this recipe now so if you are having New Year Party, get-together or potluck then you can try this easy yet delicious chicken fry.

Lot of people think making chicken 65 at home is complicated procedure I do used to think the same too before I tried it but once it's done then their's no looking back, most of the time I will keep aside little of chicken and make this as quick starter along with lunch which makes my brother so happy. He always like this kind of starter, dry fry very much than the chicken curries I make !

The recipe is very simple with the ingredients that we can find in our pantry always, I did added food color this time to bring the bright orange color like we get in restaurants but you can avoid that, infact I don't add that every time too, good quality chili powder also brings good red color. So it's upto you whether you can to add food color or not.

Chicken 65 works as great starter for party, potluck and it's quite good option too, do the marination before hand and just fry before serving or you can fry and keep it too, reheat when needed to have your delicious and attractive appetizer ;)

For vegetarian don't be upset, I have already posted Gobi 65 and Aloo 65 recipes so if you don't eat chicken you can do the same with cauliflower or potato and also you can use the same recipe and make it with fish too, just remember to use boneless fish pieces. So not delaying further checkout the recipe and give your feedback if you try it.

Prep Time: Cook Time: Total Time:
Serves:2-3

  • 1/2 tsp - Fennel Powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp - Cumin Powder
  • 1 tbsp - Corn Flour
  • 1 tbsp - Plain Flour (Maida)
  • A Pinch - Orange Food Color (optional)
  • 1 tsp - Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 tsp - Vinegar
  • To Taste - Salt
  • 1 sprig - Curry Leaves
  • For Frying
  • 1 sprig - Curry Leaves
  • To Deep Fry - Oil

Method:

  1. Finely chop 1 sprig of curry leaves and keep aside (this is optional), wash 3-4 times chicken pieces well and pat dry with kitchen tissue.
  2. In a bowl add chicken and rest of ingredients mention under 'To Marinate' and mix well to combine everything, add chopped curry leaves too, keep aside for minimum of 30 mins or more if you have time. You can also refrigerator overnight, let it come to room temperature before frying if keeping in fridge.

Serve hot or warm with lemon wedges and onion rings.

Notes
  • Frying curry leaves adds flavor to the oil.
  • Do all the frying in medium flame so chicken gets cooked.
  • I liked to add chopped curry leaves in marination as it also adds flavor.
  • Make sure to pat dry chicken pieces well.
  • You can skip food color, I just added this time since taking pictures ;)

Easy, spicy and delicious chicken 65.
