Beetroot or Cukandar as it's known in hindi is one of the wonderful vegetable, beetroot is an excellent source of folic and a very good source of fibre, manganese and potassium especially the greens, which are rich in calcium, iron and vitamins A and C. 100g serving of raw beets provides 43 calories, 2g protein, 0g fat, 10 carbohydrate and 3g fibre isn't that great?


We love beetroot and that you can see from the variety of reicpes I have here and personal favourites are beetroot poriyal, beetroot dal & sambar, beetroot masala and raita of course.  I would add more recipes as and when I will be posting them so do come back to check what's new/

How to Choose Beetroot
Beetroot should be firm, smooth, in red-purple in color and should not be soft, wrinkled or dull in colour. Fresh beets with the greens attached can be stored for three to four days in the fridge, but beets with the greens removed can be stored in the fridge for two to four weeks.
Tip: While cutting and cooking beetroot if your hands becomes stained and the red color not going with plain water rinsing then rub some lemon juice over it will help to remove the color.
