I made Panchakajjaya with yellow split moong dal (pasi paruppu) it's very tasty and crunchy since the dal is not cooked but just roasted so for old people or people having tooth problem this might not be the right thing to eat as it has lot of crunch and little hard to bite too but for others they will enjoy this. Try to use fresh grated coconut as much as possible, coconut makes this moist, delicious and juicy or you can use frozen coconut just thaw it before using.

Dry or dessicated coconut can not be used in this recipe, adding cardamom is optional but cardamom takes this dish to all new level. This Panchakajjaya is prepared very quickly we just need to take note while roasting dal that's all so do try this for your Naivedyam some thing different for you and family and enjoy the festive and wishing every one a very Happy Ganesh Chaurthi (Vinayakar Chaturthi) may Ganapati Bappa bless all.

  7. In the same pan heat ghee and roast cashew nuts until golden brown, keep aside.
  8. Now add jaggery and coconut mixture and cook in slow flame for 30 seconds to a minute. [We do this to melt if there is any jaggery lumps left and to caramelize little] Now add crushed moong dal, cardamom powder mix and cook for a minute. This helps in binding dal with jaggery coconut mixture well.

      Notes
      • You can make the dal powder or coarse powder too.
      • Heating jaggery, coconut mixture and adding dal is to combine everything together well and it makes jaggery caramelize.
      • If can skip this step and directly mix jaggery, coconut mixture with dal and serve.
      • You can also roll the Panchakajjaya in to laddu which will be easy for kids to eat and you can also give it in lunch/snack box.
