Murunga Dal or Murungakkai Paruppu, Drumstick Dal is easy dal made with drumstick. This dal recipe is very good specially for people whom doesn't like tamarind so doesn't eat sambar. This sahjan dhal recipe is from my in-laws, there they make dal with drumstick and of course not sambar. When I posted drumstick sambar in that post I did talk about this dal and how I want to share the recipe which is finally happening now.

Chicken Potato Curry, chicken aloo curry is easy, delicious chicken curry which makes great side dish rice or even paratha. This recipe is from my sister-in-law, she mostly add potato with chicken while making it which makes that curry delicious and also few of us focus more on potato than the chicken ;) For the people whom doesn't eat chicken but doesn't mind the potato looked with chicken this recipes works best as you don't have to make two separate dishes.

Plain Pulao or sada pulao rice is easy one pot meal which can make in jiffy and also do lot of variations with it. This plain pulao also makes excellent lunch box recipe or even perfect comfort meal for weekend when you have some good curry on making whether veg or non-veg then this simple pulao makes best combo. We can also use coconut milk to cook the pulao for extra flavors. Add few more vegetables if preferred.

Mooli Saag Chana Dal, mooli bhaji chana dal sabzi, Mullangi Keerai Kootu is winter special recipe while we get fresh, tender radish (mooli) with their leaves. This time had very good radish to taste very tender and sweet nothing like what we get in Singapore, really very delicious radish which also served as snack in Delhi streets with some chat masala. Anyways back to the this recipe it's Chhattisgarhi special recipe to use the radish leaves and made this excellent side dish which goes well with rice, dal or roti, paratha.

Kusum Bhaji Saag or Safflower leaves as known in english, Karadai in Marathi, also known as Kusumbo, Kusumbar bhaji, I don't know what's tamil name for Kusum bhaji. This leaves are more popualr in Central India and specially in Chhattisgarh from where I learnt about Kusum or Safflower leaves. I have heard lot of times of Kusum bhaji at my in-laws places from the time of my marriage but happen to taste and see kusum bhaji for the first time last year.

Potato Green Eggplant (brinjal) Cauliflower Curry or Khatta aloo, hara baingan gobi sabzi is sweet, sour and spicy curry made with medley of vegetables and yogurt. This is Chhattisgarhi specialty which I learnt from at my in-law's place, normally green eggplant or brinjal is cooked with yogurt as purple brinjal and green brinjal taste differs and to make it more delicious green eggplant is always cooked with something sour curd or butter milk.

Sem ki phalli, aloo aur vadi ki sabzi or broad beans, potato wadi (badi) curry is Chhattisgarhi style curry popular in my in-law place where sem phalli or broad beans (Chikkudukaya/avarakkai) is one of the favorite vegetable. My Mil does amazing gardening and we have semi plants unfortunately whenever it's broad beans season I am not there to relish home grown, organic semi :(. Semi or avarakkai is delicious vegetable cooked in any way.

Masoor Ki Dal or whole (sabut) masoor dal/brown lentil is one of our favorite dal. It's very easy to prepare and goes well with rice or roti/paratha and we doesn't required any other vegetables as side, just a simple salad, pickle and/or papad and you have a comfort meal which by itself is lavish. Masoor dal is high in protein, folic acid, iron and zinc. and it's way healtheir than skinned masoor dal (dhuli masoor dal)or pink dal as some calls it or Maisoor paruppu as in Tamil.

Dan Kaanda Sabzi (tari) or Pidi karunai kizhangu curry as it's called in tamil is similar to yam or colocasia (taro root) but it's not elephant yam or colocasia as some people think. I don't know English name for dan kaanda and this is the name that my in-law place known as. Dan kaanda texture is similar of colocasia but it taste little different though some times dan kaanda can also cause itchiness.

Kadhi Pakoda or Kadhi Pakora is excellent side dish with steamed rice and prepared in various method across various states in India. Basic besan, yogurt mix remains same but the flavoring differs in most of the kadhi recipes of course not considering Sindhi Kadhi in which yogurt is not used. Kadhi pakora or as we call it kadhi chawal since normally kadhi is served with steamed rice or jeera rice for a delicious and comfort meal.

Pumpkin Curry or Kumdra Sabzi or Kaddu Sabzi is easy, quick and delicious pumpkin curry which can be pair along plain rice or roti, paratha anything of choice perfectly. I have already posted dry pumpkin curry recipe which is little different from recipe as this is my SIL recipe and that was mine. You can make the same curry dry too just don't add water and it still can be pair along rice.

Sahjan Bhaji Toor Dal Sabzi or Drumstick Leaves Split Pigeon Peas Curry or we can also say it's Murungakkai Keerai Kootu though it's drier than normal kootu. This bhaji recipe I learnt from my MIL and normally from drumstick leaves this what is made like I mentioned in my drumstick leaves adai, drumstick leaves rasam posts this is the recipe I was talking about. This recipe is really easy and taste delicious.

There are 2 ways of making this paratha one is doing the stuffing and another is this easy method of mixing everything together and then make paratha, a good option during week days. Sweet potato paratha is good option for kids to make their normal paratha more nutritious and also it taste little sweet so they will like it too.

Mooli Chana Dal or Radish Chana dal is easy dal recipe made with mooli. People normally use mooli or radish in paratha, salad, sambar and here is the dal version with chana dal. If aahar or toor dal is used with mooli then the taste is different & chana dal taste is different and this dal taste best if chana dal is used. Radish is high in folic acid and potassium and they have good source of vitamin B6, copper, calcium etc.

Kheksi dal is great wayt eat Kheksi also known as kakrol, Spine-Gourd, Kantola (kantala), Kankoda, Kankada, Kakooras, Katu Pire etc. Kheksi or spine-gourd is similar to tindora and pointed gourd (parwal) you can say but the taste is different. Normally this Kheksi Chana Dal made or fry is made with onion and masala which taste yum too. Kheksi is normally available in monsoon so I am not sure if it's still available in market.

Pumpkin Taro Curry or Kumda Kochai Sabzi or Kaddu Arbi Sabzi is tasty combination of pumpkin and taro.  Different way to make pumpkin and both the vegetables comes together very well. Sweet, tangy and mildly spicy this curry goes well with roti, paratha or steamed rice. Normally with full pumpkin I make pumpkin dry curry in batches and only some time try other things.

Phalahari Arbi Sabzi or Kochhai/Taro/Colocasia is delicious curry or sabzi made with arbi and this is suitable curry for Navratri fasting/vrat/upwas with no onion no garlic and everything that is not allowed in fasting.  We can make this curry not only during fasting but on normal days too just change sendha namak/rock salt with regular salt and enjoy this no onion no garlic curry with anything of choice.

I am a big pickle fan and off all the pickles I really like lemon pickle a lot when I didn't even start to cook I used to make lemon pickle how crazy that can be !! But then I stopped making it for some unknown reason though I still love lemon pickle or nimboo ka achar after all it's so difficult to say no to this tangy, spicy and tongue tickling pickle, I wouldn't say who can say no to this pickle cause personally I know few you do say no to lemon pickle.

Arbi Patta or Colcasia (Taro) leaves, Rikwach or Kacchu or Kochai patta as it's called in my in-laws place is a treat to eat.  In my home Arbi Patta only relished while a visit to hometown that also depends on season if it's available, as I never seen taro leaves in Chennai.  But now I have ample of access to this gorgeous leaves at my in-laws place there are plants in our garden, house if not get it from neighbors and if they come to know I want to eat then get extra leafs :).
