Khichdi is great comfort food, I use to make khichdi for every Saturday lunch once but now a days I make this so rare, I have no idea why it's like that now.  Hot Khichdi+Ghee+Achar+Papad=Comfort food for me, it taste delicious and so satisfying.  We don't need a fancy meal to satisfy ourselves some time small thing makes big difference and khichdi is one such entity.  But then every one doesn't feel the same about khichdi, DH doesn't use to like khichdi but he likes the way I make and doesn't complain about eating it.  It's a great one pot meal and can be a good lunch box recipe too.

My mom use to prepare rasam only once in a blue moon and it use to be just for us.  I do same too since DH doesn't like tamarind base things it's difficult for me relish sambar, kuzhambu etc but once in a while I made these things just for myself.  Normally I make pepper rasam since I like pepper taste in rasam, but for change  I do try different things and dal or paruppu rasam is one such thing.  It's easy, simple and taste yum due to dal.  Hot pipping rasam, steamed rice and some papad is just a delicious comfort food.  Add any simple stir fry or poriyal to make a complete meal.  You can make it simple by whenever you make dal just keep little aside to make this rasam, that's what I do, me and DH both happy.  He eats the dal and I relish on rasam :)

Ingredients for Eggless Savory French (Besan) Toast 

[Makes 4 Toasts]
Bread - 4 [Use any variety]
Chickpeas Flour/Besan - 1/4 Cup
Rice Flour - 1 tbsp
Onion - 1 Medium [ 1/4 Cup Chopped]
Green Chilli - 1
Red Chilli Powder - 3/4 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Chat Masala - 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp
Cilantro - 1 tbsp [Chopped]
Salt - To Taste
Water - 1/4 Cup or little more
Oil - To Toast

Method:

1. Mix all ingredients expect oil & bread in a bowl without forming lumps, use a wire whisk or hand.

2. Dip bread in prepare batter both sides to coat well with batter.

3. Heat a pan/tawa drizzle little oil, place the bread pieces carefully and toast both sides until light golden brown, sprinkle little oil on sides of bread.  Repeat same for rest of bread pieces.

Variations ~
  • You can use 1/2 tsp of ginger-garlic paste.
  • You can skip garam masala and/or chat masala.
  • You can add little freshly crushed pepper.
  • You can add other vegetables like grated carrot, finely chopped capsicum etc.

Sprouts Scrambled Eggs Recipe


I have posted Scrambled Eggs recipe before and in this recipe I just added sprouts to make it more nutritious and also sprouts adds wonderful crunch to these scrambled eggs.  I am trying to include sprouts in many different ways in our diet and this was one such try which now has become a regular recipe.   If you like or want to add sprouts in your diet then you might like this simple and different scrambled eggs with sprouts, it's not really a pretty looking dish but it's differently taste yum.  A quick breakfast option which can be fixed in less than 10 minutes. So leavings you all this with simple recipe and wish you a wonderful weekend.

Ingredients for Sprouts Scrambled Eggs

Sprouts - 1/2 cup
Eggs - 4
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt & Pepper - To Taste


Method:

1. Break eggs in a bowl and whisk until fluffy and light.
2. Heat Oil in a pan or wok, add sprouts, stir and cook for 2-3 minutes until sprouts gets almost cooked.
3. Add beaten eggs and cook for 2 minutes in medium flame or until they starts to set.
4. Using a whisk or spatula stir the mixture to break eggs in to pieces.
5. Add salt & pepper mix and cook for another 2 minutes and off flame.

Serve warm with toast, pancake or anything of your choice.

Chayote, chow chow or as known as Bengaluru katharikkai (brinjal) in tamil is one of those veggie which makes rare appearance at home. And most of the time I make this simple dal, though the recipe is easy but this dal taste very delicious. It's my sister recipe, I learnt this from her as in our parents place chow chow is total no-no, South Indian vegetables makes very rare appearance in my parents place.

Moong Dal Tadka Recipe


Today I’m posting simple dal takda recipe which can be done in jiffy in the most easy way.  It’s similar to my tindora dal where I add everything, pressure cook and then give a simple tadka.   Though this dal very easy to prepare but it taste delicious with plain steamed rice or roti, even a side dish is not really necessary.  I do this when I am in hurry or have no mood to cook which becoming more and more these days.  I have used split green gram dal but you can use whole green gram too in that case soak the dal as it takes longer time to cook.  Try this simple day and you going to love it. 


Ingredients:

Split Green Gram/ Dhuli Moong Dal - 1 Cup
Onion - 1 Large
Tomato - 1 Large
Green Chillies - 4
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Red Chili Powder - 1 tsp
Salt - To taste
For Tempering
Oil/Ghee - 1 tbsp
Asafetida/Hing - a pinch
Cumin Seeds /Jeera - 1 tsp
Minced Garlic - 1/2 tbsp
Curry Leaves - 1 sprig


Method:

1. Slice onion, tomato, slit chilies.
2.  Wash dal, add onion, tomato, chilies, salt, turmeric & chili powder with enough water.  Pressure cook for 3 whistles.

3.  Once cooker pressure released, mash dal slightly and add 1 cup water. 
4. In a pan or wok heat oil or ghee add hing, cumin seeds and allow to splutter.  Add curry leaves, garlic and sauté until light brown.  Add cooked dal mix and bring it to boil, adjust salt, water if required.  Simmer for 2 minutes.

Our simple and quick dal is ready, add ghee on top for extra taste.
