Falahari Khatta Meetha Kaddu | Sweet Sour Pumpkin | Navratri Vrat Recipes

Phalahari Khatta Meetha Kaddu (Kumar), Sweet and Sour Pumpkin, vrat ke kaddu sabzi, petha ki sabzi is easy, slightly sweet, sour and spicy pumpkin dry curry suitable for Navratri fasting or vrat. Made with only minimal ingredients this sabzi iw very quick to make and goes well with singhara poori, rajgira paratha or cheela or even with sama pulao, even if you are not fasting you can make this pumpkin side dish to pair with roti or paratha.

Sightly sweet and sour we can also have this kaddu sabzi as snack if we wish, apart from yellow pumpkin we can also make this with white pumpkin or petha and in that case we have to add more of sugar to make it sweet, as normally sweet pumpkins are sweet in taste compare to white ones. Falahari Khatta Meetha kaddu | Sweet Sour Pumpkin Recipe

Slightly sweet, sour and spicy pumpkin dry curry for Navratri fasting or vrat.

  • 2 Cups - Pumpkin/Kaddu/Petha
  • 1 tbsp - Oil/Ghee
  • 3/4 tsp - Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Fresh Pepper Powder
  • 1 tsp - Roasted Cumin Powder
  • 1 tps - Amchur/Dry Mango Powder
  • 1 tbsp - Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • To Taste - Rock Salt/Sendha Namak
  • 1 tsp - Sugar


  1. Peel and chop pumpkin in bite size pieces, chop coriander leaves. In a pan or wok heat oil or ghee, add cumin seeds and allow to splutter. Add pumpkin pieces mix well, cover and cook in medium flame until pumpkin becomes soft.

  3. Once pumpkin becomes soft (take care it doesn't get mashed) add sugar, sendha namak, pepper powder, cumin powder, amchur powder and sitr gently to comine every well, cook again in slow flame for 2-3 mins, add coriander leaves, mix and off flame.

Serve hot or warm with singhara poori, kuttu poori, cheela, rajgira paratha or even with sama pulao.

  • You can add 1 tps crushed coriander seeds with cumin seeds if you get coriander seeds in fasting.
  • You can also add 1 tsp red chili powder, reduce pepper in that case.
  • Instead of amchur/dry mango powder, you can use tamarind pulp or paste, add tamarind and cook for 2-3 mins until raw smell disappears.
